Fantasy Football Week 7 Early Games News and Notes
By Bill Pivetz
The early week 7 games saw some interesting performances, game scripts and outcomes. How do they affect fantasy football in week 8 and beyond?
Week 7 was another week with some fascinating performances and outcomes, both good and bad. With eight games on the slate, some of the matchups could have led to great games but others were completely one-sided. Fantasy football owners did not benefit from those games.
The Falcons only scored 10 points, but more on them later. The San Francisco-Washington game was played in a mud pit, leading to just nine total points. Aaron Rodgers had the game of his life in week 7.
In the later games, Ryan Tannehill looked like a different quarterback, leading the Titans to a win over the Chargers. The Saints continue to win with Teddy Bridgewater under center. The Eagles could not get anything going against the Cowboys on Sunday night.

Some of these notes are independent of anything else. Others will have an effect on week 8 and the rest of the fantasy football season going forward. Here are the three biggest notes coming out of the early games from week 7.
Running Back Roles in Arizona
Week after week, Chase Edmonds has been seeing more carries at the expense of David Johnson. This week, it went to the next level and may have taken over the starting job from Johnson.
Edmonds finished the game with 27 carries for 126 yards and three touchdowns. He also had two catches on four targets for another 24 yards. Johnson, who was dealing with an ankle injury heading into this game, had just one carry for two yards.
The Cardinals offense looks a bit more balanced with Edmonds on the field. They don’t have a true tight end, so relying on Edmonds as the check-down receiver helps Kyler Murray. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Johnson’s role will be reduced, so get your shares of Edmonds in now.
Injuries
Will Fuller (hamstring), Adam Thielen (hamstring), Kerryon Johnson (knee) and Matt Ryan (ankle) are the impact players that left their respective games with an injury and did not return. There were a few others that were hurt but were able to return.
Fuller has dealt with injuries throughout his career. He left the week 7 game early with a hamstring injury. No other news has been reported regarding Fuller’s status for next week. I don’t think he plays before the Texans bye week in week 10. Keke Coutee and Kenny Stills could see more targets.
Thielen had a nice touchdown on the play he got hurt. He was favoring his right leg on the sidelines. Hamstrings are tricky injuries as it could take a couple of weeks before getting back to full health. He is getting an MRI but Thielen said he should be ready to go for Thursday.
Johnson is dealing with a right knee injury and had a brace on it while on the sidelines. We won’t have any further details until later on Monday. Johnson has been a reliable option at running back. If he’s out for an extended period of time, J.D. McKissic and Ty Johnson will split the carries.
Ryan left the week 7 game with an ankle injury and was seen in a walking boot after the game. He will get an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. The Falcons are 1-6. They face the Seahawks in week 8 and have a bye in week 9. I don’t see a reason to rush him back.
If you own any of these players, this week’s waiver wire is important in order to keep your team afloat.
Breakout Performances
Outside of Edmonds, there were a few other players with big games in week 7, some of them even helping fantasy football owners.
Marvin Jones – 10 catches, 93 yards, four touchdowns.
Kirk Cousins – 24-for-34, 337 yards, four touchdowns
Gerald Everett – four catches, 50 yards, one touchdown
Zach Pascal – six catches, 106 yards, two touchdowns
If you have one of those injured players I mentioned, maybe some of the players I listed with a breakout performance are available for you to pick up this week. I’ll have a waiver wire piece up in a day. Continue to check out FanSided Fantasy for all fantasy football advice!
