Genk face Liverpool at Luminus Arena on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
In the third game of the Champions League group stage, Genk host Liverpool at Luminus Arena. Wednesday’s game will be the first of back-to-back games between the two clubs. Liverpool are second in Group E with three points, one point behind Napoli. Genk are bottom of the group table with one point in their first two games.
Genk have had a poor start to the Jupiler Pro League season. In 11 games, the Smurfs have 17 points and sit sixth in the table. Genk’s Champions League campaign also got off to a terrible start, losing 6-2 to Red Bull Salzburg. While the loss could have been crushing for one of the smaller clubs in the tournament, Genk were able to rebound in their second game, holding Napoli to a scoreless draw. Manager Felice Mazzu will likely use the same game plan he did against Napoli against Liverpool. Genk cannot afford to get in a shootout with Liverpool but if they can limit the Reds scoring chances, they might be able to steal a point from them.
Liverpool dropped points for the first time in the Premier League season over the weekend. The Reds were held to a draw by Manchester United. Despite dropping points, Liverpool still hold a six-point lead over Manchester City. In the Champions League, Liverpool lost 2-0 to Napoli in their first game. In their second game, the Reds defeated Salzburg 4-3 in one of the most exciting games of the tournament. Jurgen Klopp’s side were up 3-0 before allowing Salzburg to tied it in the second half. The Reds were rescued by Mohamed Salah, who scored his second goal, winning it for Liverpool.
Salah could miss Wednesday’s game with an ankle injury. If the Egyptian is unable to play, Xherdan Shaqiri will likely draw into the starting XI. The Swiss winger played a key reserve role for Liverpool last season but has struggled to get off of the bench this season.
