2. New York Jets

Adam Gase’s reputation as an offensive guru seems to take more and more hits every year. He could be one-and-done as the Jets head coach, with a 1-5 record right now after he won an apparent early power struggle with then-general manager Mike Maccagnan.

As Todd Bowles moved toward an inevitable firing late last season, Harbaugh surfaced as a prominently rumored head coaching target for the Jets. At the time Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported the idea of a The Godfather-esque “offer he can’t refuse” to Harbaugh from the Jets, in access of the $7 million per year he’s making at Michigan. At the time, Harbaugh, of course, was quick to say he wasn’t leaving for the NFL. It’s unclear if said offer ever actually came from the Jets, but maybe they didn’t follow through on what was also reported by Florio as a month of digging on Harbaugh.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again? If Gase is fired, and Harbaugh has indeed shifted his course on the idea of leaving Michigan for the NFL, the Jets could very well come back a year later with a legit offer he can’t turn down. And maybe, just maybe, he’d take it.
