Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 8 BOOM or BUST!

Week 7 Recap:

Now that’s more like it! After stringing together a couple weeks of subpar results for our BOOM or BUST picks, we nailed nine of 12 in Week 7. Suddenly, everything in the fantasy football realm began to make sense again.

While he didn’t have a huge game against the 0-for-6 Dolphins, Josh Allen played flawless football, slinging two touchdowns without turning the ball over. Josh Jacobs continued to shine a light on the Packers’ defensive weak point, rumbling for over 120 yards for the second time in as many games. The only two BOOMs that didn’t pan-out were Tevin Coleman, whose ceiling was capped in a downpour, and Michael Gallup, whose services weren’t really needed in a blowout victory as Amari Cooper was surprisingly active.

T.Y. Hilton sure got his, though. Even while taking a backseat to Zach Pascal in this one (6 catches for 106 yards and two TDs), he was still able to notch a top-10 finish at the WR position this week. Lastly, Hunter Henry remained a focal point of a Chargers team that can’t buy a win at the moment.

Now onto the next column, where each player, aside from Kirk Cousins, warranted their “BUST” labels. The trio of David Montgomery, Damien Williams, and Terry McLaurin did virtually nothing for owners, while T.J. Hockenson turned-in yet another mediocre performance. Most surprising, however, was Montgomery’s volume against the Saints, seeing just four touches the entire game. Bears’ QB Mitchell Trubisky threw the ball a career-high 54 times – not exactly a recipe for success.

BOOM Picks:

QB Josh Allen vs. MIA – 202 passing yards, 2 TD, 32 rushing yards, 2-pt conversion (21.3 points)

RB Josh Jacobs @ GB – 124 rushing yards, 3 receptions for 10 yards (16.4 points)

RB Tevin Coleman @ WSH – 62 rushing yards, 2 receptions for -1 yards (8.1 yards)

WR T.Y. Hilton vs. HOU – 6 receptions for 74 yards, TD (19.4 points)

WR Michael Gallup vs. PHI – 3 receptions for 34 yards (6.4 points)

TE Hunter Henry @ TEN – 6 receptions for 97 yards (15.7 points)

BUST Picks:

QB Kirk Cousins @ DET – 337 passing yards, 4 TD, -3 rushing yards (29.2 points)

RB David Montgomery vs. NO – 6 rushing yards, 2 receptions for 13 yards, FUM (1.9 points)

RB Damien Williams @ DEN – 7 rushing yards, 2 receptions for -1 yard (2.6 points)

WR Terry McLaurin vs. SF – 1 reception for 11 yards (2.1 points)

WR Robby Anderson vs. NE – 1 reception for 10 yards (2 points)

TE T.J. Hockenson vs. MIN – 3 receptions for 32 yards (6.2 points)

Total Correct Picks – 9/12

"DISCLAIMER: “BOOM or BUST” isn’t exactly a “Start or Sit” column. I identify and provide analysis for players who aren’t a top-tier starting option that I believe will exceed expectations – and also those who will fail to meet them. It should be remembered that these picks are done at the beginning of the week, so better options may surface as the week progresses and we get a better idea on various injuries and player situations. Use your best judgement and keep tabs on news updates around the league up until kickoff on Sunday… Without further ado, let’s dive right into this week’s matchups!"
