Fantasy football lineup advice: Quarterback

BOOM:

Matthew Stafford, DET vs. NYG

Stafford sputtered against the Packers in Week 6, but answered his worst performance of the year with a 28.6-point outing this past Sunday versus the division-rival Vikings. He tossed a season-high four touchdown passes (all to Marvin Jones Jr.), and with Kerryon Johnson now on IR, the Lions are going to be forced to air it out. Stafford gets a home matchup this week, averaging 22.3 fantasy points per game at Ford Field as opposed to 17 on the road.

The Giants are a great matchup for Stafford and his talented tandem of wideouts. New York has only allowed 19.8 FPPG to enemy passers, but this number is somewhat skewed due to Kyler Murray‘s seven-point blunder last week. After dropping three straight close games in a row now, expect Stafford and co. to get back on track this week.

BUST:

Jacoby Brissett, IND vs. DEN

Brissett has been a pleasant surprise for owners this year, eclipsing 20 fantasy point in each home matchup to this point. However, the Colts are still a run-first team, as Brissett has dropped back to pass on just 53.6 percent of offensive snaps (fifth-lowest rate in the NFL). Andrew Luck‘s successor has remained efficient, but his volume as a passer has been entire game-script dependent.

He’ll face, by far, his toughest test to date in Week 8 when the Broncos come to town. Denver has been a nightmare matchup for opposing signal-callers over the last few years, and nothing has changed this season, limiting the position to 11.2 FPPG.  The Colts’ pass-catching corps is still sketchy outside of T.Y. Hilton, and with Chris Harris Jr. expected to shadow him, it may be tough-sledding for Indy’s aerial-attack.

Sleeper:

Ryan Tannehill, TEN vs. TB

Tannehill was rock-solid in his first start with Tennessee, posting 19.2 fantasy points against the Chargers. He was far from perfect, both tossing an interception and losing a fumble. Nevertheless, the Titans moved the ball better than they had all season with Tannehill under center. He draws a matchup with the Buccaneers this weekend, a team that’s been pummeled through the air (allowing the the sixth-most fantasy points to QBs).
