Assuming he can bounce back in 2020, these teams need to call Josh Gordon

4. Indianapolis Colts

Head coach Frank Reich is one of the best play-callers in the game. He’s managed to keep the Colts together despite franchise quarterback Andrew Luck’s abrupt retirement just before the regular season.

Jacoby Brissett stepped in as the new signal-caller, and he’s done well enough for Indianapolis to be atop the AFC North to this point at 4-2.

But Indianapolis’ only really proven receiver is T.Y. Hilton. There’s no question the division leaders have room for an upgrade. If any team or coach can handle a sudden change in circumstances, it seems to be the Colts.

That’s apparently their M.O. Whether it’s been Luck’s retirement, the multiple-game absence of superstar linebacker Darius Leonard or a depleted secondary, Indy hasn’t flinched all year.

Brissett has a big arm and can count on Hilton to get open downfield. Adding another player with those capabilities but greater size like Gordon certainly wouldn’t hurt.

As of this writing, Indianapolis ranks 21st in total yards per game — basically the bottom third of the league. The defense has only seven takeaways in six games, so unless that changes, it’s difficult to count on an offense with limited big-play potential be as productive as it needs to be without more short fields.

In a division that features a surprisingly strong Jacksonville offense and the dynamic attack of the Deshaun Watson-led Houston Texans, it’s likely going to take a little more for Indianapolis to remain on top. Gordon could be the extra juice necessary to push the Colts toward hosting a playoff game.
