The Texas Longhorns are not back but are very much overrated after suffering their third loss of the season, falling to the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth.

After beating the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl last January, one would have thought that Texas Longhorns were surely back. Like, for real this time. They had a big, strong, handsome, dual-threat quarterback by the name of Sam Ehlinger. Texas had itself one of the best young coaches in college football in Tom Herman. They were absolutely, definitely back…until they weren’t.

Flash forward to the last Saturday in October and the Horns have three losses on the year. They lost at home to the LSU Tigers in early September, they fell in Dallas to the archrival Oklahoma Sooners a few weeks ago on a neutral site. Now, they just lost on the road in Fort Worth to the previously 3-3 TCU Horned Frogs. Texas is still not back and is completely overrated.

Sure, losing at home to LSU isn’t the worst thing in the world. The Bayou Bengals have a Heisman Trophy frontrunner at quarterback in Joe Burrow and are certainly in play to contend for a national title. There’s a pretty great chance Texas won’t even make it to Arlington in early December to play for the Big 12 Conference Championship.

One would have thought that a loss to Oklahoma in Dallas was a great defeat to have and that playing the Sooners in Arlington in early December was a foregone conclusion. Well, the Sooners lost earlier on Saturday to the Kansas State Wildcats in a game where Chris Klieman’s team completely outplayed Lincoln Riley’s squad in Manhattan.

Of course, losing on the road to TCU isn’t great. This was a game that everybody who watches The Longhorn Network thought Texas was going to win. Well, they didn’t and Texas has a few very tough games left on the schedule.

They haven’t played the only undefeated team left in the Big 12 in Matt Rhule’s Baylor Bears. Kansas State looks to be ahead of schedule under Klieman, feeling great about itself after shocking Oklahoma. Let’s not forget that the Iowa State Cyclones are well-coached under Matt Campbell. Who knows what happens at the end of the year vs. the Texas Tech Red Raiders?

If you want more proof of how grossly overrated Texas is, they almost lost at home to Les Miles’ Kansas Jayhawks last week! That was a game Kansas had every opportunity to win. While Cameron Dicker the Kicker came up clutch, Texas doesn’t almost lose to Kansas, especially if Texas thinks it’s back. Well, the Longhorns aren’t back. Not even close, thanks to TCU for proving it to us.
