Captain Gabriel Landeskog will miss a good amount of time with the Avalanche after an undisclosed lower-body injury.

Gabriel Landeskog, captain of the Colorado Avalanche, will be out “indefinitely” with a lower-body injury, the team announced on Tuesday. The forward had played in all of Colorado’s 11 games on the season so far through the month of October.

The news comes off the heels of the Avalanche losing right winger Mikko Rantanen to a lower-body injury after a freak accident that has the forward out on a week-to-week basis.

The announcement of Landeskog’s injury comes as a surprise, as the 26-year-old captain did not seem to show any signs of injury while playing on Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks. Landeskog played just over 20 minutes during the Avalanche’s game over the weekend, with no indications of any possible injury suffered during game time.

The Avalanche will have an update on Landeskog’s condition later on Tuesday when head coach Jared Bednar will address the media following the team’s practice.

In 11 games this season, Landeskog had seven points and three overall goals for the Avalanche. Though Landeskog isn’t in Colorado’s top five in terms of point producers this season, the forward is a mainstay on the team’s top line with Nathan MacKinnon. After the injury, however, the Avalanche will be missing two of the three members of their top line, as Nathan MacKinnon remains the only healthy forward after the injuries to Landeskog and Rantanen.

The Avalanche have been one of the NHL’s best teams this season, as Colorado sits in fourth overall place in the NHL at 17 points with a 8-2-1 record.
