5. Leonard Fournette

There is a run by Greg Jones, of Florida State fame, where he sees a UNC player in his way and makes a point of picking that defender and then blowing him up. That is what Leonard Fournette was like on every single run. Running angry, looking for contact, just lighting dudes up. That was Fournette’s game.

Just thinking about having to square up on Fournette will keep you up at night. And a lot like number two on this list, Fournette was immediately destined for a college career filled with highlights of defenders getting out of the way or getting steamrolled. He looked like an adult playing with kids. Like Greg Oden at Ohio State. Like Danny Almonte in the Little League World Series. Two more earthquake style hits and he would have reached 100 on an EA scale.

Fournette is a throwback running back in every sense. There just aren’t many backs that seek contact the way Fournette did anymore. On the one hand, it just isn’t that valuable a move — unless you’re Fournette. Running backs need to save the hits if they can, and being elusive seems to be pretty popular for NFL teams not named the Jaguars. But the point is, Leonard Fournette would run over absolutely anyone, and that’s truly frightening. You just don’t know when it’s your time. Your Fournette moment might be coming.
