3. New Orleans Saints

The Saints are 7-1,  and just got Drew Brees back from a thumb injury in Week 8. They are a legit Super Bowl contender, and they’re three games clear of everyone else in the NFC South with their next three games against those teams after a Week 9 bye (Falcons, Buccaneers, Panthers, then the Falcons again in Week 13). By the end of Thanksgiving weekend, New Orleans could have their division all but sealed up with a legitimate eye on home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Michael Thomas is arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, with the numbers to back it up. But after him, in terms of threats at wide receiver, it falls off to Ted Ginn and Trequan Smith. If there is a need to fill in New Orleans, wide receiver depth stands as one.

The Saints are so far down the waiver pecking order that their odds of cashing in on a claim Gordon are slim to none, with none having a big edge. So it will most likely take him being freely available after clearing waivers to bring Gordon to the Bayou, but there’s a chance that happens and the prospect of Gordon joining Thomas and Alvin Kamara as prominent weapons for Brees down the stretch is intriguing. With Brees’ getting up in age, and not necessarily guaranteed to play next season, the Saints are in a win-now window where some risk can be embraced.
