1. Houston Texans

The Texans are 5-3,  behind the Indianapolis Colts (5-2) but with a loss in hand to the Colts. So they are in slightly better position to get Gordon via a waiver claim than their division rival, and most of their other chief playoff competitors in the AFC as a whole.

Head coach Bill O’Brien has taken the role of general manager this year, for better or worse. A trade to address a notable need was made when left tackle Laremy Tunsil was acquired from the Dolphins before Week 1. With Will Filler out, and Kenny Stills (also acquired from Miami) and Keke Coutee struggling to produce consistently, Houston still needs a better No. 2 option at wide receiver opposite DeAndre Hopkins.

If Gordon clears waivers, the Texans have the cap space to go above most other teams with a financial offer (perhaps multi-year, and however incentive-laden it should be). In what may be a clustered playoff race, an effort to make a risk-reward move to add Gordon and try to separate themselves may be on the table for the Texans. Deshaun Watson throwing to Hopkins and a healthy, well-situated Gordon would become the highest upside QB-WR-WR trio in the league.
