Rank: 9 | Opponent: Washington Huskies | Time: Saturday, Nov. 2, 4:00 p.m. ET

It’s safe to say that a road loss to USC on Sept. 20 ignited a fire under Kyle Whittingham’s Utah Utes. In the four games since their only defeat on the 2019 season, the Utes have won by at least 18 points in each of them, including giving up 10 combined points to Oregon State, Arizona State and California in their three most recent victories. Whether it’s Zack Moss and the offense or one of the nation’s most underrated defenses, the Utes are rolling right now.

On Saturday, they’ll roll into Seattle as they take on the 5-3 Washington Huskies, a team that has largely fallen short of expectations this season. Chris Petersen’s squad has been difficult to figure out. Jacob Eason and the offense laid an egg in a Week 2 loss to Cal, then did so again on the road against Stanford at the beginning of October. Prior to their bye last week, they were simply outmatched against Oregon, though they acquitted themselves well in a hard-fought loss.

What we can make of Washington is they are a team that, at their best, can hang with the best teams in the Pac-12. The big question, though, is which group is going to show up on a given week and that’s especially true as it pertains to Eason at quarterback. Whenever the Georgia transfer is efficient throwing the ball and doesn’t make mistakes, the Huskies have a chance. That’s just been unreliable, though.

Going up against a Utah defense that has been playing as well as they have been, that might not inspire much confidence in Eason and the Washington offense. Having said that, with this game in Seattle and with the top-end potential that the Huskies do have, you can’t count them out against the Utes. If nothing else, Whittingham’s team can’t expect an easy road win if they want to avoid the upset in Week 10.
