Joe Mixon faces assault allegations

In July 2014, Joe Mixon was involved in an incident where, after being shoved by a woman, he proceeded to punch her in the face, breaking her jaw and cheekbone. That incident put Mixon under scrutiny and is likely something that will stick with him and his career for a while.

In an interview with police, Amelia Molitor told authorities that Mixon and his friends made catcalls at her and commented on her looks. Molitor rejected Mixon’s advances outside of a local sandwich shop.

Molitor and Mixon allegedly exchanged words, with Mixon reportedly insulting Molitor’s friend. The exchange escalated with Molitor eventually shoving and slapping Mixon before the then 18-year-old football punched her in the face.

That punch broke Molitor’s jaw and cheekbone. The Oklahoma Sooners responded by suspending Mixon for the entirety of the 2014 football season. Nearly two-and-a-half years later, he publicly apologized to a long list of people, including Molitor, for his actions.

In that apology, Mixon stated that it was never okay to strike a woman and he said that he accepted full responsibility for the situation that unfolded.
