Art Briles and Baylor

Art Briles, as the head coach of the Baylor Bears, developed routinely exhilarating offenses that could score points by the dozen. But, as most already know, an explosive offense isn’t what defined the Briles era of Baylor football.

A massive sexual assault scandal did.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, 17 women reported sexual or domestic assaults that involved 19 Baylor football players. SI.com reported Baylor was accused of not responding to reports of rape and/or sexual assaults from at least six female students. Texas Monthly tracked the case extensively, reporting heavily on events that occurred during the entire saga.

And then there’s the complete timeline that WFAA compiled covering the entire scandal.

It’s not totally clear how many women were allegedly affected and how many players were allegedly involved, but a report by The New York Times mentions a lawsuit that alleges 52 assaults took place between 2011 and 2014 involving 31 Baylor football players.

Multiple women alleged they were sexually assaulted and/or raped, multiple football players were allegedly involved in these incidents and multiple Baylor officials, including coaches, reportedly knew of the incidents, according to ESPN.

Briles was fired, athletic director Ian McCaw and university president Ken Starr resigned in disgrace.
