Travis Etienne’s 200-yard day for Clemson has him rising in the Heisman rankings, trying to make it a race down the home stretch.

Specifically, concerning the 2019 Heisman Trophy race, Week 10 really didn’t offer much to the cause. The top players in the rankings leading into the week were off for the week as Joe BurrowTua Tagovailoa and a trio of Ohio State standouts and Jalen Hurts and Oklahoma all didn’t take the field. At the same time, though, that allowed some other players to make their case and make a move up the rankings.

Clemson Tigers running back Travis Etienne was undoubtedly a player that made his case in that regard. Because of their less-than-dominant play early in the 2019 season, it seems as if Clemson has been off of the national college football radar in recent weeks. While that’s been the case, the running back has been putting up some eye-popping numbers.

That continued in Week 10 as Etienne and the Tigers picked on a cupcake in Wofford, blowing out the Terriers on Saturday. In truth, the star running back didn’t have to do much work at all to put up incredible numbers. Etienne only touched the ball 10 times in the victory and still came close to producing 250 yards of offense.

And speaking of big-time running back performances, Oklahoma State’s Chuba Hubbard has done his best to stay in the Heisman mix this season. With the Cowboys pulling off a big win over TCU, Hubbard again put forth a tremendous effort that will move him up in the latest rankings.

While Etienne and Hubbard both added to their cases, though, it’s foolish to say that they’ve done enough to challenge for a spot in the top five. With the home stretch of the regular season approaching — and some big games like LSU-Alabama on the horizon — the Heisman rankings are still subject to major change. So these two running backs leaving their mark put them in a position to make a late move.

Taking all that into account, these are the top 10 Heisman Trophy candidates after 10 weeks.
