Is it worth starting Kyle Allen in fantasy vs. Falcons?
By John Buhler
After losing on the road to the Green Bay Packers, is it wise to start Carolina Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen against the Atlanta Falcons in fantasy?
He had to fight against snow in the Frozen Tundra that is Lambeau Field on Sunday last week. However, quarterback Kyle Allen and his Carolina Panthers couldn’t get it done on the road vs. the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. Fortunately, they will face an easier opponent at home in the two-win division-rival Atlanta Falcons in Week 11. Should you start Allen in fantasy this week?
The Fantasy Footballers have been reluctant to start Allen before, but he has proven himself to be a solid starter for Carolina filling in for the injured Cam Newton these last several weeks. Given that Atlanta has surrendered many opposing quarterbacks’ best performances of the season, perhaps you can start Allen against the Falcons on Sunday and have some success?

No, don’t bench your normal starting fantasy quarterback in favor of Allen this week, as that could yield disappointing consequences if the Atlanta defense played like it did last week on the road vs. the archrival New Orleans Saints. Atlanta had six quarterback sacks of Drew Brees and did not allow a touchdown in a hostile road environment. Did Atlanta figure something out on their bye?
Though the Falcons made a bunch of coaching reassignment internally on their annual bye, the Fantasy Footballers agree with Las Vegas in that Atlanta’s dominating performance against Saints was probably an anomaly more likely than anything. We can’t reasonably expect the Falcons’ pass rush to play like it did the last week in New Orleans.
Should the Falcons’ pass rush go back to being one of the worst in the league, look for Allen to have a great game against what has been a horrendous Atlanta secondary. Of course, maybe Atlanta did figure something out last week in the back-end of its defense. Regardless, Allen still has Christian McCaffrey to dump the ball off to out of the Carolina backfield.
Overall, it’s a tad risky to go with Allen in a starting spot this week on your fantasy team, but if he plays like many quarterbacks that have gone against the Atlanta defense this season, he could have the greatest game of his young NFL career coming out of the University of Houston.
