Five Potential Late-Round Keepers Currently Available in Your League Right Now That Represent Great Value For 2020

If you’re in a keeper league, it’s the time of year. Whether you’re in the playoff race or not, you look over your roster and start analyzing what players you might like to keep for next season. Keeper leagues are all about value. The best keepers are those drafted late or picked up as free agents.

If you weren’t lucky enough to draft any steals late (Ravens QB Lamar Jackson) or get one on the waiver wire (Redskins WR Terry McLauren) you probably don’t feel like you have any good potential keepers. You could have a great team, but if all your best players were early to mid round picks, they don’t represent great value going into next seasons fantasy draft.

There are a handful of players so far this season that were drafted late, or not at all, that are currently on Injured Reserve that do have some fantasy value heading into next season. You can add one of these guys before this season ends and potentially keep them in exchange for your final draft pick, whatever round that may be, in next season’s draft.

TE Chris Herndon, New York Jets

After a fantastic rookie season in 2018, a particularly difficult thing to do at the tight end position, nothing went right for Herndon in 2019. A 4-game suspension, followed by a hamstring injury, followed by a rib injury limited him to one catch before he was put on IR. The four-game suspension means that Herndon was drafted late or not at all this year. His upside and rapport with QB Sam Darnold gives him keeper potential in deep leagues.

TE Will Dissly, Seattle Seahawks

Dissly largely went undrafted because of a patellar tendon injury early in his rookie season. In his sophomore season, he had at least 80 yards or one touchdown in four straight games before his torn ACL, ending his season early for the second year in a row. In the eight complete games that Dissly has played in his career, he has a 30-413-6 stat line. If he can stay healthy, big IF at this point, Dissly is a low-end TE1 with Russell Wilson running around slinging the ball.

WR Preston Williams, Miami Dolphins

Williams went undrafted in April’s NFL draft, so it’s highly likely he wasn’t drafted in your fantasy league either. An impressive preseason continued into the regular season. In the eight games before he landed on IR, he tallied 32 receptions, 400+ yards and three touchdowns, which is not bad for any receiver on such a talent deficient team, let alone an undrafted rookie. When he returns next year, the talent around him should be much improved through free agency and the draft.

RB Lamar Miller, Houston Texans

The starting RB tore his ACL in the preseason. Some players are able to come back from a serious injury and thrive, and some aren’t. Miller is an unrestricted free agent in 2019. If you store him on your roster til next summer, you can see if he signs anywhere before your draft and determine if he might be worth your final selection. He only has value in leagues in which he went undrafted in 2019, which he did if your draft occurred after he tore his ACL.

QB Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts

Luck isn’t on IR,. He retired before the age of 30. Whenever there is a premature retirement, there is always speculation about if and when the athlete will unretire. It seems unlikely that Luck will be back after only one season away, but the possibility can’t be completely dismissed. If he did come back, he would be considered a borderline QB1, no matter if it was with the Colts or another team. Much like Miller, Luck only has potential keeper value if he went undrafted in 2019.
