DraftKings college football showdown captain pick November 21

The captain pick is always the hardest, right? Tonight is not different. We all know the risk of rolling with wide receivers in the captain slot.

Georgia Tech is trying to run a spread offense with option components left over from last year. Predictably, it has not gone so well. What the Yellow Jackets have ended up with is a bastardization of a spread option. It’s not as pretty as it sounds.

The good part is that Jordan Mason still usually has a heavy workload. The Bees rested him in last week’s embarrassment against the Hokies. Mason lost seven yards on just six carries. He’ll be ready to go tonight, but the issue is that the North Carolina State run defense is really good. They are only allowing 127.5 rushing yards per game.

The QB carousel at North Carolina State is one of the few places that hasn’t been necessitated by injury. Devin Leary is the third quarterback to Start for the Wolfpack this year. None have been all that great, but Leary’s solid game against Louisville will give him another start. However, the place to attack Georgia Tech is on the ground.

The issue is that the Wolfpack aren’t really a running team. Zonovan Knight has led the team in carries the last two games, but he still splits with Ricky Person and Jordan Houston. Given the relative weakness of the Georgia Tech defense, even messing with this timeshare could be a place to go.

That said, we don’t really want that for the captaincy. We want someone who is getting guaranteed touches. Emeka Emezie has been the leading receiver for the Wolfpack with Leary under center. That’s as close to a guarantee as we can get at wide receiver.

The Georgia Tech quarterback situation is even worse than North Carolina State’s. James Graham started against Virginia Tech on the heels of a good game before that. He was yanked in favor of freshman Jordan Yates, who wasn’t any better against the Hokie defense. That said, if Yates is the future at QB for Georgia Tech, he could be in line for a ton of snaps here. The good part about that is that Yates is super cheap if you’re willing to take a risk at the captain slot.
