With the final international break of 2019 over, the Premier League season resumes. On Saturday, Crystal Palace host Liverpool at Selhurst Park. After a strong start to the season, Palace have come back to earth, dropping to 12th in the table. The Reds are starting to create some distance at the top of the table. Liverpool have opened up an eight-point lead over second-place Leicester.
The schedule makers were extremely unkind to Crystal Palace. The Eagles had an extremely rough four-game stretch before the international break. The Eagles allowed eight goals in four games, losing to Manchester City, Chelsea, and Leicester but were able to pick up a point against Arsenal. It doesn’t get any easier for Palace as they play the best team in the Premier League on Saturday. Manager Roy Hodgson will continue to play extremely conservatively as he looks to limit the number of scoring chances for Liverpool and hope for the best. While Palace have played well defensively for most of the season, they have been terrible in the attacking half. The Eagles have scored only 10 goals in their 12 games, the second-fewest in the Premier League.
Liverpool are unbeaten this season, winning 11 of their first 12 games. The Reds have looked unbeatable in the Premier League this season. Even when Jurgen Klopp’s team plays poorly, they are still better than whoever they are playing. Liverpool have an impressive +18 goal differential and shows no signs of slowing down. The duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have been great this season, combining for 13 goals and will look to add to their totals on Saturday.
