The Road to Sears Centre: Cody needs revenge
“The Road to…” is a YouTube series from All Elite Wrestling that introduces talent to the fans as well as gives them a behind-the-scenes look. This current incarnation is leading up to AEW at the Sears Centre
“The Road to…” series has made its return to AEW’s YouTube channel ahead of their return to the Sears Centre in Chicago.
Cody is asked by someone off-camera if he wants to talk about or offer any insight into his match against Chris Jericho at Full Gear and he replies with a firm “no.” Next, he’s asked about his decision to not challenge for the AEW World Championship again after losing to Jericho. He doesn’t want to answer that either. Cody is the then asked about losing one of his best friends, MJF, due to his actions at Full Gear. Before Cody can answer, the screen fades to black.
A VoiceOver says that to most fans, Chicago is the birthplace of All Elite Wrestling since All In took place at the Sears Centre on September 1, 2018. They returned to another sold out crowd for All Out. AEW will return on Thanksgiving Eve for Dynamite.
Prior to Full Gear, Cody raised the stakes of the AEW World Championship match by stating that if he did not win, then he would not challenge for the championship again. Footage from the match is shown along with the aftermath at Dynamite the following week. Cody attacks Jericho and MJF before being choked by his own tie by WARDLOW at the command of MJF.
Cody wasn’t cleared for in ring action following Full Gear. He went against doctor’s orders by getting physical at Dynamite. The doctor fought him on giving him an injection for his bruised ribs and told him to focus on Chicago.
Cody tells the interviewer that on the way there, he cut off a driver and was flipped off. He says he’s telling the story because he doesn’t know that guy and they can say “f–k you” to each other and be done with it. His relationship with MJF “did matter.” Cody goes on to say that he should be more mad and deserved a better explanation than he got. “I probably wouldn’t even hear it. There’s probably a lust for revenge or maybe vindication in here (motions to his gut). I don’t really know what to say about it.” Cody says he knows that MJF isn’t a good guy; “he’s heel, but he was my heel. I handpicked him when no one else did.”
Cody feels bad for what’s going to happen when he’s cleared. The episode ends with Cody explaining his need to return to the ring and for grabbing a hot mic to address MJF.
