What should fantasy football owners do with Aaron Rodgers?
By John Buhler
Aaron Rodgers just had the worst game of his professional career vs. the San Francisco 49ers. What should you do with the Green Bay Packers’ quarterback?
There is no other way around it. The Green Bay Packers got smoked on Sunday Night Football last week vs. the San Francisco 49ers. In a game that we all thought Packers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers would unleash the fury on the team that should have drafted him No. 1 overall back in 2005, Rodgers ended up playing the worst game of his professional career.
The Fantasy Footballers would point out that Rodgers has had some bad games against good pass defenses this season. He is still an excellent player, but Rodgers isn’t playing up to an NFL MVP-level any more. What should you do with Rodgers on your fantasy team? Can you afford to drop him? Is he still worth starting down your playoff run?

While Rodgers struggled against San Francisco at Levi’s Stadium, you should feel comfortable about playing him in the next two weeks. Green Bay will face the dreck of the NFC in the Washington Redskins and the New York Giants. So look for Rodgers to go off against those two bad football teams.
But after that, you may want to let Rodgers go entering Week 15 or not play him at all. The reason for this is that the Packers will play the Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings in the final two weeks of the fantasy season. Though the Packers get Chicago at home, Green Bay will have to play the Vikings in Minneapolis. So that doesn’t bode well for Rodgers’ fantasy success.
We get it. You might have used one of your earlier picks back in August in your fantasy draft, but you have to realize that if you play Rodgers in the fantasy playoffs, you are sure to lose. He’s not going to give you a 25-point performance against either Chicago or Minnesota, and you’ll probably need that to advance in the fantasy postseason.
So what you should do is look at who your fantasy backup quarterback is, see if that guy has a favorable matchup in Weeks 15 or 16 and start him over Rodgers. If you don’t like those matchups, then get a guy who does or just roll the dice and see what Rodgers can do for you against division rivals. If you want to live by Rodgers, be prepared to die by Rodgers in fantasy.
