The Michigan State Spartans edge out of the Nebraska Cornhuskers as the most disappointing team from the Big Ten this year. No, Michigan State will not be the worst team in the Big Ten this season, but this was a team that we thought could hang in the tough Big Ten East and win about nine or so games during the regular season. Now, they have to win this weekend to go bowling.

Michigan State was a ranked team to start the year but has only beaten two teams with a winning record this season: the MAC’s Western Michigan Broncos and the division rival Indiana Hoosiers, both of whom are 7-4 through 11 games. After beating Indiana, Michigan State would then proceed to lose five straight Big Ten games before beating the awful Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Truth be told, that was the rough part of Michigan State’s schedule with rival teams like the Michigan Wolverines, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Penn State Nittany Lions on it. However, we expected the Spartans to at least win one of those games and play tough in another as they usually do under head coach Mark Dantonio. Maybe he’s the problem in East Lansing?

While Dantonio is the greatest head coach in Michigan State football history, his team has no competency on offense whatsoever and the defensive-minded head coach is even dragging in that department on his side of the ball. Michigan State should be going bowling because they will be facing the putrid Maryland Terrapins this week, but Dantonio and the Spartans let us all down.
