Walmart is a major Black Friday destination, but will Walmart stores be open on Thanksgiving Day? Here’s what you need to know!

When it comes to whether or not Walmart is open on Thanksgiving, the answer is this: It’s complicated. All Walmart locations will be open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day for early Black Friday doorbuster shopping. But when it comes to being open during the day, that’s where it gets a little tricky.

Walmart stores that are open 24-hours will be open all day on Thanksgiving. They will have their Black Friday merchandise wrapped in plastic until 6 p.m. when it will become fair game for bargain-hunting shoppers.

The tricky part is with stores that are not open 24-hours. These locations, for the most part, will not be open on Thanksgiving Day but they will open at 6 p.m. that evening. It’s tricky because some locations could be open during the day, especially when they are in a remote location that serves as the only shopping center for miles.

The bottom line: Call ahead and check what time the location nearest you will be open before heading out.

Walmart is one of the hottest destinations for Black Friday shopping, but it’s also a great place to buy everything you need for a fantastic Thanksgiving meal. That means that if you’re willing to brave the crowds and you need some last-minute ingredients for your Thanksgiving dinner, you could technically buy them after 6 p.m. on Thursday.

If you do end up at a 24-hour Walmart on Thanksgiving Day, don’t be surprised to see people lined up outside waiting for 6 p.m. The stores will probably keep Black Friday shoppers outside just to keep the store clear, so you should be able to get in and out quickly.

Be sure you call ahead and check the store hours before heading out, and keep in mind that just because the store is open (at least part of the day) that specialty departments like the pharmacy and tire center aren’t necessarily open on the holiday.
