10. Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators have actually done something right over the past decade other than draft Brady Tkachuk.

The Sens’ uniforms have always received mixed reactions since Ottawa’s changed its design a few times after retiring the set from that last from the mid-‘90’s until the early 2000s. That second set of jerseys from 1995 until 2000 truly were the Senators’ best duo, however, the team decided to experiment with some non-traditional designs.

Still, fans are hungry for a simpler and more traditional sweater, especially considering that the other seven Canadian teams arguably have better uniforms than the country’s capital.

The letter “O” crest is classic — and while it’s criticized for being a “zero” in relation to how many Stanley Cups the Senators have won – it’s better than the “Planet of the Apes” centurion figure that was first introduced as an alternate logo in the late ‘90s.

How the stripes are displayed, and are patterned, work well with the team’s overall brand and it’s also a different and bold appearance compared to most NHL teams. One can argue it has a bit of a Junior Hockey display, but the reality is that it’s more of an “old-time hockey” design, which more teams around the league should consider leaning towards moving forward.

Ottawa has used two other varied versions of this sweater in black and white for an alternate and outdoor game. It’s time for Ottawa to introduce that trio as the team’s official sweaters as a new era begins for the Senators.
