Heisman rankings Week 14: Joe Burrow leaving no doubt
10. Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
The Clemson Tigers took rival South Carolina to the woodshed to end the regular season, winning 38-3. And with the way that Dabo Swinney’s offense has looked this season, you might be led to believe that running back Travis Etienne was a major part of that. But while he had two rushing scores on the day, the star ball-carrier simply didn’t have his best game of the season.
Etienne finished the game with a meager 51 yards on 15 carries, though he did add 37 receiving yards on three catches. The junior running back has been awesome in 2019 with 1,386 rushing yards on only 168 carries and 18 total touchdowns (16 rushing, two receiving) but his overall production and too many down games cause him to just barely crack the top 10 of these rankings.
9. Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State
Honestly, it’s hard not to feel bad for Chuba Hubbard and his potential Heisman Trophy candidacy given how his season ended. He’s been phenomenal this season and has remained productive but with injuries throughout the rest of the offense, defenses have been able to key in on him a great deal and it’s led to good-not-great games in big moments, like on Saturday in Bedlam.
Hubbard still managed 104 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries against the Sooners while catching three balls for 13 yards but the Cowboys star just simply wasn’t the game-breaker he needed to be in this type of week. Yes, the redshirt sophomore has 1,936 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the year but his team’s lack of success and his showing in a game like Saturday’s knock him down these rankings.
