NFL DFS Monday Night Football: FanDuel Single Game Contest Player Picks
By Hans Geevers
Monday Night Football presents the DFS/FanDuel community with a clash of NFC teams! Let’s take a look at this game from a fantasy football perspective!
Before I discuss my FanDuel player selections, let’s take a look at the key DFS injuries for Monday night’s game, discuss the rules for the FanDuel single game contest, and briefly discuss my fantasy strategy for this football game.
Key DFS Injuries
Minnesota Vikings: OUT: Adam Thielen, WR.
Seattle Seahawks: QUESTIONABLE: Luke Wilson, TE.
Now let’s discuss the rules for the FanDuel single game contest. You have $60,000 to use on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your MVP. The FanDuel MVP accumulates 1.5 times the standard FanDuel points value.
The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard FanDuel points value. Having stated that, it is imperative that you identify the correct player as your MVP if you hope to take down a FanDuel single game contest.
If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the FanDuel single game contest, I recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.
Quite simply, I think Monday night’s game will be a high scoring affair between two teams that have struggled to defend the pass. My belief that both teams will struggle defending the pass will be reflected in my player selections for this football game.
Let’s not waste anymore time! Here are my FanDuel player selections for Monday Night Football!
MVP-Russell Wilson $15,500
In my opinion, the way to attack the Vikings’ defense is through the air. The Vikings’ defense is currently ranked 14th in passing yards allowed (244.5) per game in the NFL. It also has to be said that Minnesota’s defense has also allowed 19 receiving touchdowns in 2019. For the record, 21 NFL teams have allowed fewer receiving touchdowns than the Minnesota Vikings.
In direct contrast to that, Minnesota’s defensive unit has been outstanding defending the run this season. Minnesota currently ranks fifth in the NFL in rushing yards allowed (94.2) per game.
Having stated these facts, for me, the smart play is to roll with Seattle starting quarterback Russell Wilson as my MVP.
Wilson certainly has shown in 2019 that he has no problem throwing the football successfully on a consistent basis. Wilson currently ranks 10th in the NFL in total yards passing (2,937 yards). More importantly, Wilson currently ranks second in the NFL in passing touchdowns (24).
Kirk Cousins $15,000
Cousins should find success versus a Seattle secondary that has also been vulnerable to the pass in 2019. How bad has Seattle’s defense been defending the pass? Well, over the Seahawks last four games, the team has allowed an average of 324.8 passing yards a game, including 460 passing yards to Atlanta quarterback Matt Schaub in week nine.
Now let’s take a look at how Cousins has played recently from a statistical perspective. In his last three games, Cousins has accumulated 759 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns. It also should be noted that Cousins has not thrown an interception in his last three games as well.
Dalvin Cook $14,500
In my opinion, Dalvin Cook is a football player that quite simply cannot be faded in any fantasy format. Why? Well, the man is highly involved in the Minnesota offense each and every week. Cook runs the ball and catches the football as well.
Cook’s current statistics for the 2019 season are outstanding. So far this season, Cook has 1,017 rushing yards and 455 receiving yards. Additionally, Cook has 11 touchdowns in 2019.
Irv Smith Jr. $8,000
Smith Jr. has slowly, but surely become more involved in the Vikings offense. Over his last three games, Smith Jr. has been targeted by Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins 15 times. I should also note that Smith Jr.’s involvement in the offense has clearly increased in the absence of Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen. Thielen will be absent from the lineup again on Monday night which should continue to benefit Irv Smith Jr. from a fantasy perspective.
Josh Gordon $6,500
I am stacking my MVP quarterback with one of his wide receivers, Josh Gordon. It has to be said that I would love to find a way to get D.K. Metcalf in my lineup. However, Metcalf is too expensive, so I am rolling with Gordon. Gordon was recently acquired by Seattle off the waiver wire a few weeks ago. I think he is showing that he can be solid contributor to this offense. My hope is that Gordon gets a chance to show what he can do for the Seattle offense on Monday night.
Good luck!
