Quarterback

Boom: Carson Wentz, PHI vs. NYG

Wentz has been largely unimpressive this season, currently sitting as the overall QB12. The 26-year-old suffered a brutal five-game stretch from Weeks 7-12, averaging a lackluster 11.5 fantasy points per game over that span. However, he showed resiliency against the Dolphins last Sunday, compiling 24.4 fantasy points on 300-plus yards passing and three touchdowns. This proved that when the matchup is right, Wentz can still put up strong numbers.

Fortunately, this is one of those matchups, as the Giants have yielded 21.3 FPPG to the quarterback position throughout the year, sixth-most in the league. The Eagles are still fighting for a playoff spot in one of the weakest divisions in football, and after last week’s inexcusable loss to Miami, there should be a fire lit under this group.

Honorable Mention: Ryan Tannehill (TEN @ OAK), Kirk Cousins (MIN vs. DET)

Bust: Drew Brees, NO vs. SF

The Falcons have had Brees’ number this season, as the 12-time Pro Bowler again struggled against his division rival, accruing just 11.3 fantasy points in their Thanksgiving Day battle. The Saints were up big early, so his services really weren’t badly needed, but it was still a disappointing finish in a great matchup. Brees is still a fine option most weeks, but appears to have shaken the “matchup-proof” label in his age-40 season.

The 49ers are going to do their best to make life rough for Brees, coming into this game allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to QBs (13 FPPG). San Francisco has gotten the best of opposing signal-callers in 2019 with its vaunted pass-rush led by Nick Bosa. In fact, the only quarterbacks that have had any sort of success against them have been Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson – all whom of which were able to do damage with their legs. That simply isn’t an option for Brees.

Dishonorable Mention: Josh Allen (BUF vs. BAL), Mitchell Trubisky (CHI vs. DAL)

Sleeper: Andy Dalton, CIN @ CLE

The Bengals’ coaching staff got back to their senses in Week 13 and placed Dalton back into the starting lineup. The Red Rifle responded by throwing for over 300 yards and leading Cincinnati to their first dub of the season. He’s playing with a chip on his shoulder and Cleveland is currently yielding the 12th-most FPPG to enemy passers.
