The College Football Playoff is set and it didn’t involve too much drama either to find out which four teams will compete for the national title.
LSU, Ohio State, Clemson and Oklahoma are the College Football Playoff teams.
There wasn’t much suspense after the games on Friday and Saturday determined which four teams would make the College Football Playoff. The only drama was really whether LSU would overtake Ohio State for the No. 1 ranking after their dominant win over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. In the end, the playoff committee moved up Joe Burrow‘s team to the No. 1 line who will play No. 4 Oklahoma in the Peach Bowl.
Utah seemed like the most logical choice going into the weekend to get the No. 4 spot, but after they lost on Friday night to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game, their door was shut and the door opened for Jalen Hurts and the Sooners.
Oklahoma almost blew their chance vs. Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game but prevailed in overtime to secure their place in the playoff.
The only thing that could have kept Oklahoma out of the playoff was if Georgia beat LSU in the SEC Championship Game. That would have given the SEC two teams with Georgia and LSU, but that didn’t happen and Oklahoma fans could relax after the Tigers won.
There was no stopping Clemson from making the College Football Playoff and didn’t flirt with disaster vs. Virginia in the ACC Championship Game. Clemson didn’t have a chance at the No. 1 seed but they were the team no one wanted to meet in the semi-final, which is why the race for the No. 1 seed was so important.
Ohio State lost their grip on the top spot after a lackluster first half vs. Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game when they trailed 21-7 at halftime. The Buckeyes came alive in the second half to get the win, but it was too late to save their No. 1 seed. Now, the Buckeyes get Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.
Ohio State has been the most dominant team in football for most of the season, winning every single game by double digits and six games by at least 40 points. Clemson had a rough start to the season, but they’ve been quietly destroying everyone.
