WWE has announced the releases of Luke Harper and both members of The Ascension.
On Sunday afternoon, WWE announced they had come to terms on the releases of three of their superstars: Luke Harper, and Konnor and Viktor of The Ascension.
None of these releases come as much of a shock, especially that of Luke Harper. Back in April, Harper asked for his release after getting frustrated over the company’s lack of use of him. He suffered a torn bicep last year, and never really got back into the full spotlight he once had.
His Twitter account has been full of daily updates that literally read as simple as “It’s Sunday. You know what that means.” and it was repeated daily to reflect each day. He last shared a status about a Netflix horror movie that he was in back in July. Aside from that, there was a retweet from Randy Orton, and his request for his release on April 16.
He once terrorized WWE rings, alongside Erick Rowan as part of The Wyatt Family, and on their own as the Bludgeon Brothers. They had a measure of success after they split from Bray Wyatt and it looked like they were set to dominate for some time. Then he suffered the injury and was never really the same after that.
Also getting released on Sunday are Konnor and Viktor of The Ascension. The two were set for big debuts when they broke into the company, getting video vignettes on a weekly basis. But their debut was met with very little love from the fans. Over the last couple of years, the two had been mostly used as more of a comedy bit for backstage segments. They had occasional matches here and there, but nothing of real serious contention. Viktor took to his Twitter on Sunday as well to announce his “freedom” from the company.
WWE wished them well on their future endeavors, and posted about the releases on their social media outlets.
