Is Lando in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker?

The final film in the Skywalker saga will soon arrive in theaters and speculation about which iconic Star Wars characters will return to the fold for The Rise of Skywalker. While there are many players from a galaxy far, far away everyone would enjoy seeing again, one that truly stands out amongst the rest is Lando Calrissian.

Calrissian has been a fan favorite since audiences were first introduced to him back in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, where he ran Cloud City on Bespin. He soon became a general in the Rebel Alliance and was crucial in taking down the Empire.

The popular character even got a bit of an origin story, well at least a side plot in a Han Solo origin story. The less-than-stellar Solo: A Star Wars Story featured actor Donald Glover playing a younger Calrissian back in his smuggling days right before he loses the Millenium Falcon to Solo. While that film wasn’t great, Glover’s performance was one of the few things the Star Wars spinoff got right.

Last time we saw Williams play the character was in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi when he was awkwardly clapping in the Ewok village after he successfully piloted the Millennium Falcon into the second Death Star, hitting yet another weak point and blowing up the moon-sized space station.

Now fans everywhere are wondering if he will return for The Rise of Skywalker. After other iconic Star Wars characters like Leia, Luke and Han Solo have made appearances in the new films, it only makes sense to bring Williams back into the mix.

For those hoping to see Lando Calrissian make his triumphant return in Star Wars Rise of Skywalker, we have some good news to report. It has been confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will reprise the role for Episode 9, and from the first look photos, it looks like he is happy to be back in the Falcon’s cockpit.

However it goes down, it will be interesting to see how Lando makes his big comeback and what other memorable characters may or may not show up in Episode 9. One thing is for sure is that Star Wars fans will not want to miss Rise of Skywalker when it releases on Dec. 20, 2019.
