Wondering if the Dark Sith Lord Emperor Palpatine will make his triumphant return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? Don’t worry, we have the answer you seek!
Ever since that familiar sinister laugh echoed at the end of The Rise of Skywalker trailer, speculation has been at an all-time high on whether or not Palpatine will be back in action for the final Star Wars film of the Skywalker saga. The question in everyone’s mind is without a doubt whether or not Palpatine, who we all thought had died at the end of Return of the Jedi, is in The Rise of Skywalker.
The next chapter in the saga, The Rise of Skywalker, is directed by J.J. Abrams and will wrap up the series of films that started with the original trilogy that began in 1977 with Star Wars: A New Hope. Abrams helmed the seventh episode in the saga,The Force Awakens, which put the franchise back on the map. Now after two less-than-stellar titles with The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story, this property needs to not only closeout the story successfully but make up for the duds that preceded it.
Since the stakes are so high for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it makes sense that it would be all hands on deck. And given Snoke’s shocking demise in Episode 8, there is a vacancy to be filled in the villain department. So the question remains, will the former Naboo senator be in the upcoming film?
It has been confirmed that the Emperor, played once again by actor Ian McDiarmid, will return in some way shape or form in the next Star Wars film picture. There are a lot of theories as to how this could be possible. The ones that stick out include him being a Force Ghost, a clone, or even a Sentinel Droid like the one seen in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 video game.
However it goes down, it will be interesting to see how Palpatine makes his big comeback and what other memorable characters may or may not show up in Episode 9. One thing is for sure is that Star Wars fans will not want to miss The Rise of Skywalker when it’s on Dec. 20.
