Pick Analysis. 3. player. 844. Scouting Report. Running Back. Arkansas Razorbacks, 2006. Darren McFadden

As with Andrew Luck at Stanford, who did Arkansas Razorbacks running back Darren McFadden never win a Heisman Trophy? He was a finalist twice in 2006 and 2007. While he might have been a better player in 2007, he wasn’t going to beat out Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow. Tebow is one of the greatest college quarterbacks the sport has ever seen. No shame losing to him here.

But in 2006, McFadden should have probably won in hindsight. Sure, the Hogs were a good team under much of the Houston Nutt era in Fayetteville, but it wasn’t Ohio State. Because the Buckeyes went to the national championship, the 2006 Heisman went to quarterback Troy Smith, who was good, but nothing overly special. He briefly had a career as a backup in the NFL.

Once again, this is another example in recent memory of a Buckeye taking a Heisman from a guy who was an absolute beast pounding the rock. McFadden goes down as one of the four greatest players in Arkansas history and would be the No. 4 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders. Though an often-injured player professionally, he is undoubtedly an SEC legend.

The reason it should have been McFadden’s award is that this was the most recent time the Hogs even made it to an SEC Championship. Arkansas has never had a Heisman winner and this would have done more for the near-blue-blood program than giving it to an Ohio State quarterback who wasn’t going to make a dent in the NFL anyways. How did McFadden never win a Heisman?
