3 bold Premier League predictions: Arsenal beat Manchester City
Matchday 17 of the Premier League is almost upon us and there are some great fixtures to look forward to. Here are three bold predictions for all the action.
The busy Premier League holiday schedule is up and running and will continue over the next two and a half weeks. This short but busy period normally produces some shock results due to the lack rest players have and this means more entertaining games for neutrals.
Arsenal host Manchester City on Sunday while Everton have a difficult trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. The weekend fixtures are rounded off on Monday when Brighton travel to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace. Here are three predictions about how the weekend’s Premier League action will play out:
3. Aubameyang scores as Arsenal beat Manchester City
One of the most exciting games this weekend sees Arsenal host Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal have struggled of late but finally got a win last week when they came from behind to beat West Ham.
Freddie Ljunberg will hope that his side can draw inspiration from that performance as they host the current champions. The Gunners have a horrible recent record against Manchester City and haven’t beaten them since 2015 so it would be a major shock if they pull of a result this weekend.
It seems strange but there’s almost more pressure on City this weekend as they’ve been slipping further back from Liverpool in the title race. It would take something miraculous for Liverpool not to lift the trophy in May and the only way City can prevent that is by winning out the rest of the season.
Arsenal’s defense should struggle with the pace and precise nature of City’s attacking play. The Gunners have really struggled at the back this season and they’ve conceded eight goals in their past five games.
This means that Pep Guardiola’s side should have no problem breaking through Arsenal’s back line but the Spanish manager needs to take a look at his own side’s defense. They’ve struggled to keep teams out of late and against the likes of Aubemeyang and Lacazette it’s hard to see them not conceding this weekend.
That should mean a high scoring game is in order this weekend with both sides finding the back of the net. Aubameyang will grab a double for Arsenal whilst Gabriel Jesus will score for the visitors. It won’t be enough though and Arsenal will get a rare win over Manchester City.
