76. Kent State Golden Flashes, 77.11

  • Roster Strength: 77.46 (115)
  • Team Performance: 76.87 (102)
  • Head Coach Rating: 79.60 (90)

Kent State needed overtime to beat FCS opponent Kennesaw State in Week 2, and pulled off three consecutive upsets over its final three games to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2012. The Golden Flashes, who were slotted to take on Utah State in the Frisco Bowl, are set to play in just the third bowl game in program history.

Head coach Sean Lewis, the youngest head coach in FBS at the age of 31, has likely caught the attention of athletic directors across the country. As the coaching carousel turns, and bigger programs like Florida State, Arkansas and Ole Miss likely dip into the Group of Five for new leaders, someone like Lewis could be well-positioned to slide into an American Athletic Conference or Mountain West opportunity.

75. Boston College Eagles, 79.92

  • Roster Strength: 79.67 (91)
  • Team Performance: 80.34 (67)
  • Head Coach* Rating: 75.00 (112)

Steve Addazio won seven games in five of his first six seasons at Boston College, but Addazio was fired before he could lead the Eagles to win No. 7 in 2019. Instead, Rich Gunnell will lead BC against Cincinnati in the Birmingham Bowl.

Running back A.J. Dillon won’t be around either. Instead of building upon the 1,685 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns he gained during the regular season, the Eagles’ all-time leading rusher announced Tuesday he would sit out in preparation of the NFL Draft. But that means we’ll see more of the A.J. Dillon of the future, sophomore David Bailey, who added 816 rushing yards and seven scores, and at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds is built like a Dillon clone.
