Fantasy Football: Reflecting on players who positively impacted teams in 2019

It’s playoff time in fantasy football, and you know what that means. Yes that’s right! It’s time to evaluate some players that can be the difference to bringing home the championship to your squad. We will reflect on a few players and how their contributions made a positive impact for so many rosters this season. So sit back, relax, crack a cold one and appreciate what these athletes have been able to accomplish for fantasy managers.

Chris Godwin (TB)

At the beginning of the 2019 NFL regular season, there was some speculation as to whether or not Chris Godwin was going to break out as a true top receiving threat. Turns out, we were right to have these thoughts. Godwin has emerged as one of the most coveted receivers fantasy owners desire to have on their rosters.

In 13 contests played, he has compiled a grand total of 81 receptions for 1,212 yards and nine scores this season. He has emerged as one of the top receiving options for quarterback Jameis Winston to go to week in and week out. Even with another top pass catcher like Mike Evans waiting in the ranks, Godwin has still managed to have a lot of very productive outings throughout the course of the season.

Now that Evans is out for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury, Godwin has an even greater chance of putting up some significant numbers at the most crucial time of the season in fantasy leagues.

Interestingly enough, Godwin is currently averaging the second-most fantasy points among all active wide receivers in the NFL (19.9/gm). Only Michael Thomas is averaging more than the Tampa Bay receiver with 23.4 per game.

A major factor for Godwin’s rise can also be attributed to Jameis Winston’s mad bombing skills (that is when he isn’t turning over the ball). Regardless, Godwin has transformed a lot of fantasy teams with his strong efforts on the gridiron this year. For anyone who drafted him, they may have felt a little skeptical on how well he was going to play. For those skeptics that were roaming around in late August/early September, I’m pretty sure you are all more than pleasantly surprised with the results so far.

He’s been an awesome difference-maker this season and I have a hunch he is going to continue to be so as we enter the fantasy playoffs.
