The Lions should be shot into the sun for keeping Matt Patricia
By John Buhler
The Detroit Lions believe that Matt Patricia should get a third year as their head coach. The organization should be shot into the sun for this nonsense.
After coming out of the gates as a surprisingly decent team at 2-0-1, the Detroit Lions have since gone 1-10 and might very well be the worst team in the NFC. The Lions have lost 10 of their last 11 games. After taking the Kansas City Chiefs to the brink back in September, the bottom has fallen out of this soggy, wet paper bag that is Matt Patricia’s 2019 Lions.
One would think the Ford Family has seen enough out of their poor-performing football team. Yet for some reason, ownership feels confident that Patricia should get a third year in charge as the main man in Motown. Why?
According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “Lions owner Martha Ford told reporters today that coach Matt Patricia and GM Bob Quinn will return in 2020.” If this isn’t coal in your stocking, Detroit, I don’t know what is. This organization needs to be fired into the sun for blatant incompetence.
The only team the Lions have beaten this season since September is the equally terrible New York Giants. Sure, the Ford Family can hide behind the fact that starting quarterback Matthew Stafford and his backup Jeff Driskel have succumbed to injury, but Lions fans deserve so much better than seeing their team settle for something sloppy and beneath mediocrity. It’s so sad, it’s stupid.
Why the Lions won’t get a top head-coaching candidate if they were to can Patricia after two years, nobody would blame them. No head coach in football gives off the vibes as an unkempt mess who is over his skis leading a football team than Patricia. He might have been an overrated coordinator with the New England Patriots, but we can now safely cross off the Lions for 2020.
The only thing the Lions have to look forward to next year is playing on Thanksgiving. Detroit will probably lose to another sub-par signal-caller like Mitchell Trubisky before the tryptophan kicks in and you don’t care anymore about Lions football. Crap like this is why the Lions have won one playoff game since the 1950s and haven’t won a division since Barry Sanders’ prime.

Lions fans, we feel for you. Nobody deserves this kind of nightmare during the most wonderful time of the year. So instead of showing up to Ford Field in Week 17 with paper bags over your faces, just don’t bother showing up to watch the Lions get shelled by the Green Bay Packers. Spend your Christmas money on something that won’t forever disappoint you and your family.
