Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 16 boom or bust
Fantasy Football – Quarterback
Boom: Jameis Winston, TB vs. HOU
Old Jameis appears to be far in the rearview mirror as the 25-year-old now sits as the overall QB5 on the season, eclipsing 24 fantasy points in three of his past four games – with his last two being over 32 points. “New” Jameis is still going to give you a handful of interceptions, but that hardly matters when he’s throwing for 400+ yards and multiple touchdowns.
The Bucs’ receiving corps has been riddled with injuries, as Chris Godwin, Mike Evans, and Scotty Miller will all likely miss the rest of the season, leaving Breshad Perriman, Justin Watson, O.J. Howard, and Cameron Brate as the last men standing. However, this offense lives and dies by the pass, and Jameis has been too hot lately to count him out in this superb matchup. Houston’s 23 fantasy points per game allowed to QBs is second-most to just Arizona in 2019.
Honorable Mention: Matt Ryan (ATL vs. JAX), Kyler Murray (ARI @ SEA)
Bust: Tom Brady, NE vs. BUF
In his age-42 season, Father Time has finally begun to make its impact on Brady. His 16.5 FPPG ranks outside the top-12 at the quarterback position, making him a matchup-based streamer at the very best. He started off the year strong, topping 20 fantasy points in five of his first six contests, but since then – just one game of 20+ points in eight starts. Even in a plus matchup versus the Bengals in Week 15, he could only manage 128 yards passing.
Things don’t appear to be getting any easier for the six-time Super Bowl champ, as he’ll now square off with the division-rival Bills for the second time this season. Brady sputtered in their first meeting back in Week 4, posting a season-low 3.7 fantasy points, throwing for just 150 yards, zero touchdowns, and a pick. Buffalo’s D led by Tre’Davious White is rolling right now, so it’s best to try and pivot to another QB for championship week.
Dishonorable Mention: Baker Mayfield (CLE vs. BAL), Carson Wentz (PHI vs. DAL)
Sleeper: Drew Lock, DEN vs. DET
Lock fell flat in a tough road matchup against Kansas City last week, but he’s now back at home and is just two weeks removed from throwing for 300+ yards and three TDs. Detroit’s pass defense has been atrocious, yielding 21.6 FPPG to enemy signal callers, fourth-most in the NFL. Look for he and Courtland Sutton to get back on track.
