2020 NFL mock draft: Joe Burrow to save the Bengals
By Brad Weiss
The Detroit Lions have completely fallen apart since Matthew Stafford went down, and will end the 2019 season in the cellar in the NFC North. Luckily for them, they should go back to being competitive on offense once Stafford returns, as he is one of the better overall quarterbacks in the league.
On the defensive side of the ball, that is another story, as this Lions team needs a ton of reinforcements in their defensive backfield. On Sunday, the Lions were absolutely shredded by Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so do not be surprised if they use their first round pick in 2020 on the best cornerback in the draft class.
That would be Jeffrey Okudah from Ohio State, who has that rare ability to take away one side of the football field. This is a Lions defense that is young, but has some solid talent up front, and at linebacker, but if they cannot defend against the pass, there is no way they are winning an NFC North with quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins.
The Arizona Cardinals took on the Cleveland Browns in a battle of former Oklahoma quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy on Sunday, and the Cardinals came away with the victory. Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and Cardinals signal-caller Kyler Murray won the award in 2017 and 2018 respectively, and then went on to be the No. 1 picks in their respective drafts.
On Sunday, it was Murray who got the better of Mayfield, and through his first season in the NFL, he looks every bit the part of a franchise quarterback. Arizona has played tough all season long, and in 2020, they have to do a better job in getting him some weapons in the passing game, which is what they should do at No. 6 overall.
Who better to bring in than CeeDee Lamb from Oklahoma with the sixth pick, as he played with Murray during his Heisman winning season in 2018. Lamb is one of the more electrifying players in all of college football, and teamed back up with Murray, could have a dominating first season at the NFL level.
