New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara hasn’t been as good as he was a year ago in fantasy football. What is his value in a dynasty league going forward?

Odds are if you had a top-four pick in your fantasy football draft this past August, you may have ended up with running back Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints as your top selection. However, he hasn’t been as dominant in fantasy as he was a year ago. Is he starting to trend down in the eyes of fantasy football experts for dynasty leagues going forward?

The Fantasy Footballers certainly think so. Both Andy Holloway and Jason Moore believe that this was a pivotal year for Kamara as a fantasy player and he simply did not live up to lofty expectations as a bell-cow back. In fact, they view him as a tier-three fantasy running back going forward in dynasty leagues and here’s why.

Kamara needs a more physical back paired alongside him in the Saints backfield to be at his most effective. When the Saints moved off Mark Ingram Jr. this offseason in favor of Latavius Murray, the thought was that Kamara would assume more of the work in the backfield. However, he has dealt with injuries this season, while Murray has flourished on his new team’s offense.

If you could read the tea leaves, this was always the major concern with Kamara coming out of college. He needed another back to take on some of the workload for him to be at his best. His college teammate at Tennessee that did this was Jalen Hurd, who transferred to Baylor and played wide receiver before going pro. Kamara may never become a 25-touch back in the NFL.

So how does this impact his value in a fantasy football dynasty league? Well, it certainly limits his trade value. In short, Kamara is too good to be a gadget-type of player in the flex, but no longer worthy of RB1 status as your go-to, gotta-have-it bell-cow. He still has value, but nowhere near the level he had entering the 2019 NFL season.

In short, you may want to hold on to Kamara entering the 2020 fantasy football season if you can, but look to upgrade at either RB1 or even RB2 as well. That way, Kamara can still help you win, but won’t be the primary reason you win fantasy every week.
