Recap: The Jets had a few extra days to prepare for the Pittsburgh Steelersā opportunistic as running back LeāVeon Bell prepared to take on his former team. He would finish the afternoon 72 yards on the ground on 25 carries, almost matching the Steelersā rushing production as a team (25 for 75). The New York defense sent quarterback Devlin Hodges to the bench after picking him off twice. He would return when Mason Rudolph was injured but all told, Gregg Williamsā defense finished the afternoon with four sacks. The Jets managed only 259 total yards and were limited to three field goals in the final three quarters but it was enough to notch the teamās sixth win of 2019.
Next Week: The Jets shuffled off to Buffalo and faced the team that they kicked off their season against. Back in Week 1 at MetLife Stadium, Gaseās team squandered a 16-0 lead on the way to a 17-16 loss.Ā But itās worth noting that these clubs split the previous two seasons and a year ago the Jets won at Orchard Park, 27-23, in Week 14.
Draft Talk: Itās been a down year once again for this franchise, which has now missed the playoffs nine consecutive years since reaching the AFC title game in consecutive seasons (2009 and ā10). Of course, using three different quarterbacks in the first two games didnāt help. The Jetsā offensive line is in need of some major renovations.
Recap: Vic Fangioās club would be without cornerback Kareem Jackson for the final two games of the season after a violation of the leagueās substance abuse policy. And things also didnāt look good for the Broncos early on as they trailed the visiting Detroit Lions by 10 points in the second quarter. But rookie quarterback Drew Lock had a solid showing, hitting on 25-of-33 throws for 192 yards and one score. Running back Phillip Lindsay had 109 of Denverās 150 yards on the ground and both he and Royce Freeman ran for scores. The Broncos allowed only 191 total yards and sacked Lionsā quarterback David Blough four times as the team won for the third time in its last four games.
Next Week: Fangioās squad looks to hold serve in the longtime rivalry with the Raiders as the team looks to avenge this yearās Week 1 Monday night loss at Oakland. That evening, Denver fell by a 24-16 score. The Broncos have won their last three home games in the series and the clubs have split their season series four straight seasons.
Draft Talk: At the very least, it appears that Broncosā head honcho John Elway may have found his quarterback for the foreseeable future in Lock. But there are other areas of this roster that could certainly use some assistance, in particular the offensive line. Fangio could also use some playmakers on a defense that was erratic at best in 2019.
