NCAA Football DFS: How to play Holiday Bowl FanDuel
By Hans Geevers
The Holiday Bowl presents the DFS/FanDuel community with an outstanding matchup between two top 25 teams. Let’s take a look at this game from a fantasy perspective!
Before I dive into my FanDuel player selections let’s take a look at the rules for the single game contest.
The rules for the FanDuel single game contest are rather simple. You have $60,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your MVP. The MVP accumulates 1.5 times the standard FanDuel points value.
The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard FanDuel points value. Having stated that, it is imperative that you select the correct player for your MVP position if you hope to take down a single game contest.
If you have additional questions regarding the single game contest I recommend that you check out the FanDuel website for more details.
Now let’s transition to what I love doing the most! Here are my FanDuel player selections for the Holiday Bowl.
MVP-Kedon Slovis $15,000
The Holiday Bowl features two football teams that utilize very different ways to win games. The University of Southern California presents a high powered offense that focuses on throwing the football. In direct contrast to that, the University of Iowa presents an offense that wants to slowly and methodically move the ball down the field. Iowa likes to wear down the opponent and eat the clock.
Which offense do I think will have the most success in the Holiday Bowl? I love USC’s offense and fully believe they will find the most success in this game. The Trojans offense has been simply outstanding this season. More specifically, the Trojans are currently the fifth ranked team in the country in average passing yards a game (335.9).
Having stated my belief that the Trojans will find success passing the football in this game, I am going with USC quarterback Kedon Slovis as my FanDuel MVP. Slovis has flourished in this high powered passing offense. In the Trojans last three games, Slovis has 1,353 passing yards and 12 passing touchdowns!
I know what some readers of this article may be thinking. Iowa has the fifth ranked pass defense in the country! Yes, I know Iowa has played great versus the pass this season. I also know that Iowa has not seen a passing attack like the one they will see in the Holiday Bowl. Quite simply, Iowa will face an opponent in the Holiday Bowl that will start three wide receivers that will eventually be playing on Sundays in the NFL.
Flex Plays
Amon-Ra St. Brown $12,500
For my first flex play I am stacking my FanDuel MVP with one of his best wide receivers, Amon-Ra St.Brown. It is rather obvious to me that USC quarterback Kevon Slovis loves throwing the football to Brown. In the Trojans last four games, Brown has 28 receptions, 447 receding yards and added two receiving touchdowns. In that same four game span, Brown has averaged 17.43 FanDuel points a game.
Drake London $11,500
Trojans wide receiver Drake London has been a very important part of the USC offense this season as well. In the Trojans last two football games London has 14 receptions, 253 receiving yards and two touchdowns. If this football game has the game script that I see taking place, London will put up outstanding fantasy numbers on Friday night!
Nate Stanley $12,000
University of Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley is not one to usually throw the football often. However, due to the fact that I see Iowa behind in this game, I think Stanley will have to throw the football early and often to try and keep pace with the Trojans. Keep in mind that passing yards in garbage time still count in fantasy football!
Tyrone Tracy Jr. $9,000
Continuing with my belief that Iowa will need to pass the ball to stay in this game, I am going with Tracy as my last flex play. In the Hawkeyes last three football games, Tracy has 14 receptions and 153 receiving yards.
As always, good luck!
