It was a tough game for the Oklahoma Sooners vs. the LSU Tigers, but now they have to play against the ACC officials in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, too.
The refs must have had money on LSU.
In the first game of the 2020 College Football Playoff, the No. 1 LSU Tigers (13-0) were to face the No. 4 Oklahoma Sooners (12-1) in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. While LSU was an overwhelming favorite heading into this ball game, we didn’t expect the ACC officials calling this game to show their bias in favor of the Bayou Bengals this early.
Oklahoma already had to go up against 2019 Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow and the vaunted LSU aerial attack, but somehow, this wasn’t blatant enough of a pass-interference call for the ACC officials to toss some yellow laundry on the Mercedes-Benz turf. You shouldn’t be able to grab someone’s shoulder and bring him to the ground and not get flagged for it, but here we are.

There was another play of note early in this ball game where Oklahoma can’t be happy with the officials about. Sure, we were all marveling at Burrow’s greatness to complete this pass, but how sure are we that the LSU receiver re-established himself after going out of bounds? It was a cool play that eventually stood, but Oklahoma fans can’t be happy about this call at all either.

LSU is the overwhelming favorite in this game and for good reason, as this is one of the best teams in college football. That being said, it’s going to be very difficult for Oklahoma to even make this a ball game if the Sooners have to fight an uphill battle against the ACC officials all evening.
Why would they be so heavily in favor of an SEC team anyway? Shouldn’t the ACC want the inferior team to advance? The ACC has been held up by the Clemson Tigers all year and they will be playing later vs. the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl. The winners of these two games will meet in New Orleans to play for a national championship.
At the end of the day though, this is Oklahoma’s fourth trip to the College Football Playoff and it doesn’t look like the Sooners will be advancing to play for a national title for the fourth time in a row. One has to wonder if Oklahoma’s continued disappointment in the playoff will hurt the Big 12 from getting future teams into the big dance down the line? It’s rough for the Sooners for sure.
