Daniel Jones stars in Week 16 fantasy vs. Redskins
By John Buhler
In Week 16, New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones gave us a phenomenal fantasy performance, as the G-Men eked one past the Washington Redskins.
No, this has not been anything close to a great year for the New York Giants. It has largely been a joyless slog for the G-Men, as they struggled to find wins the bulk of their season. That being said, Sunday’s road victory vs. the Washington Redskins was a sign of hopefully good things to come for the Giants offense. Quarterback Daniel Jones had a monster day in fantasy vs. Washington.
The Fantasy Footballers named him as one of their fantasy studmuffins for Week 16. Jones completed 28 of 42 passing attempts for 352 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had 12 rushing yards, giving anybody who had the confidence to start him in fantasy championship week a whopping 45 points.

Jones and running back Saquon Barkley’s outstanding performance were key in the Giants pulling off a road victory over Washington in overtime, 41-35. This duo should give the New York faithful plenty to be excited about offensively heading into the 2020s. Jones’ play on Sunday is why New York felt confident enough to take him No. 6 overall out of Duke University in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Sunday was Jones’ career-high in fantasy points with 45. This was the fourth time this season the rookie out of Duke amassed at least 35 fantasy points. Simply put, when Jones is on, he provides something to the New York offense at the quarterback position his predecessor/mentor Eli Manning simply could not. Jones is the present and the future of Giants football.
While he battled through injuries in the latter part of this year, one could believe that Jones could be in for a huge jump entering his second year in the league. He’s had plenty of starts under his belt as a rookie, but a strong offseason could be key in helping the Giants get back to respectability. Of course, what happens to head coach Pat Shurmur will certainly impact this.
The Giants could make a move off Shurmur this offseason, but who is to say his head-coaching replacement will be sound enough offensively to get the most out of Jones in year two? We know that Shurmur is a great offensive coordinator, but doesn’t seem to have the charisma to be an NFL head coach. Regardless, Sunday showed us why we should be excited about Jones entering 2020.
