No. 9: 2017 Georgia Bulldogs

2017’s Georgia Bulldogs are the ninth best college football team from this decade. The Bulldogs may not have won the national title that season, but it took a once-in-a-generation type quarterback to come into the national title game and take the championship away from Georgia that year.

The Bulldogs were remarkable for most of the 2017 season with the lone exception being an egregious loss to Auburn late in the year. But, Georgia eventually redeemed itself by knocking Auburn down in the SEC Championship Game.

Winning the SEC Championship and avenging its lone loss of the year set UGA up to squeeze into the College Football Playoffs.

In the semifinals of the playoffs, Georgia looked sharp. For a team that had relied upon its defense to win most games, it was the offense that found a way to advance on to the championship as the Bulldogs needed to score plenty of points to beat Oklahoma in overtime.

Georgia then advanced on to the national championship where UGA ultimately fell short, blowing a lead, letting Tua Tagovailoa become a college football legend, and handing Alabama a national title.

A stout defense led the Bulldogs all season, but this team was able to score plenty of points as well. The running back duo of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel made the Bulldogs borderline unstoppable as they plowed through opponents with ease. Jake Fromm wasn’t the most polished quarterback that year, but he complimented UGA’s rushing attack well by being efficient.

Had Georgia found a way to win that championship game, or if it hadn’t lost to Auburn earlier in the season in such devastating fashion, this team would be higher on this list.
