Miami Heat: Trade for Jrue Holiday
We’ve already covered the most logical trade destinations for Jrue Holiday, but it’s worth mentioning why the Miami Heat were No. 1 on the list: They have the flexibility, the need and the aggression necessary to get a deal done if the New Orleans Pelicans really are wiling to move on.
It’ll take a good offer, but the Heat have the right combination of young talent (Kendrick Nunn, Tyler Herro, Justise Winslow), salary filler (Dion Waiters, Kelly Olynyk) and expiring deals (Goran Dragic, Meyers Leonard) to at least make an offer. They may not have a first-round draft pick to throw in until 2025, but if they really want Holiday, they still have a good enough offer to make David Griffin think.
Dragic has made a compelling Sixth Man of the Year case when healthy, and while losing one or both of that promising rookie duo would sting, placing a two-way force like Holiday alongside Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and whoever else is left would give the Heat a dazzling complement of defenders, shooters, penetrators and playmakers. If the Heat want to cement themselves as true contenders in 2020, this is how they do it.
