No. 1: 2013 Alabama vs. Auburn
The Kick Six was the best game of the 2010s and it’s hard to find a game that truly compares to this one. From the high stakes of winning the SEC West to earn an appearance in the SEC Championship to the bizarre and thrilling ending, this game is simply the best college football game to have been played in this past decade.
Alabama came into the Iron Bowl defending back-to-back national titles, seeking to win a third BCS Championship in a row and close out an era of college football. Auburn entered the contest looking to spoil the Tide’s hopes but also with hopes of making a run to the championship game.
The Crimson Tide arrived at Jordan-Hare Stadium with a No. 1 ranking and an unblemished record. The Tigers, meanwhile, had one loss and were No. 4 in the country.
Auburn struck first to take an early lead, but an explosive second quarter for the Crimson Tide meant that Alabama held a 21-14 lead headed into halftime. Auburn tied things back up early in the third quarter before Bama reclaimed the lead in fourth on a 99-yard touchdown pass.
With 32 seconds remaining in the game, Auburn was able to score a touchdown and get the game tied up at 28-28.
Alabama then, after a couple of rushes from T.J. Yeldon, was set up to kick an ill-advised 57-yard field goal with one single second remaining on the clock. Adam Griffith attempted said field goal, missed, and then found himself and his teammates trying to stop Chris Davis, who caught said missed field goal and was in the process of returning it from one end zone all the way to the other, giving Auburn a 34-28 win.
Davis dashed into the end zone with the ball, scored a touchdown with zero seconds remaining on the clock, and finished the regular season at 11-1 and had won the SEC West. Auburn went on to win the SEC and then play for a national championship.
