Have the Cowboys finally made a decision about Jason Garrett?

Rumors about Jason Garrett’s future with the Dallas Cowboys have been floating around all week. We might finally be getting answers.

The Dallas Cowboys’ final game of the 2019 season was a blowout win over the Washington Redskins. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw for four touchdowns and over 300 yards, Ezekiel Elliot rushed for over 100 yards and averaged 6.8 yards per carry. They put up for 47 points, running away with the game in the second half, and allowed only 16 from their opponents.

Unfortunately for Dallas, it was too little, too late. The win wasn’t enough to give the Cowboys the NFC East title– that went to the 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles after their win over the New York Giants. The victory wasn’t even enough to give the Cowboys a winning record– they finished the season 8-8 in what was arguably the worst division in the NFL.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this. With Prescott, Elliot, and many other talented players on their roster, many people expected the Cowboys to be Super Bowl contenders. Instead, they didn’t even qualify for the playoffs. It isn’t a lack of talent that is holding Dallas back.

Much of the blame has been laid at the feet of Head Coach Jason Garrett, who most people expected to be on his way out earlier this week. After some speculation and confusion on Monday, there was no word from Dallas on the head coach’s future. But after a few days, it appears we are finally getting some clarity on Garrett’s situation.

According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones wanted to move “with an abundance of care and respect” for Garrett. But the organization is expected to move on to someone new at the head coaching position. It’s not official yet, but his departure is being reported by multiple sources.

Garrett has been the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys since 2010. In his nine full seasons, he has only qualified for the playoffs three times and has never made it past the Divisional Round. Garrett led the Cowboys to three NFC East titles. It is not clear yet who the Cowboys are considering for his replacement.
