NFL power rankings: Which playoff team is the best?
5. Green Bay Packers
13-3 (NFC North champions)
No. 2 Seed in NFC
Overview: New head coach Matt LaFleur proved to be a breath of fresh air to the team. The Packers more than doubled their victory total from a year ago, when they finished 6-9-1 and quarterback Aaron Rodgers appeared hobbled all season via a Week 1 knee injury. The franchise went out and spent money this offseason, signing outside linebackers Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith and safety Adrian Amos and they made a big difference. But you could make a case that the team’s most valuable player was running back Aaron Jones, who finished with 1,558 scrimmage yards and 19 touchdowns for LaFleur’s 13-3 club.
Postseason History: It’s the NFL’s 100th campaign and 13 of the previous 99 have resulted in Packers’ championships. This mark Green Bay’s ninth trip to the postseason since 2009 and first since ‘16. But the franchise hasn’t reached and/or hoisted the Lombardi Trophy since prevailing in Super Bowl XLV in 2010.
Potential Opponents: As the conference’s No. 2 seed, LaFleur’s Packers will host either the Saints, Eagles or Seahawks in the divisional round in the final of the four games that weekend. Green Bay did not face either New Orleans or Seattle this season but fell at home to Philadelphia, 34-24, in Week 4 at home.
