Top star players, best value picks, and guys you should stay away from on January 4 in NBA DFS on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Welcome to Studs, Scrubs, and Duds; FanSided’s NBA DFS lineup helper.

Here’s what’s on the slate for tonight:

How this works:

Studs: Top high salary picks that you can build your lineup around.
Scrubs: Value players looking for a big night or consistent options to help fill out your lineup.
Duds: Players to avoid given their high salary and/or poor matchup.

Five players are picked on each slide, positions are not applicable, and both DraftKings and FanDuel salaries are listed.

Studs

De’Aaron Fox (vs NO – $8,600 on DK; $7,300 on FD): Fox looked more like himself against Memphis, though the matchup certainly helped. The Pelicans have been better in recent weeks but they’re also on a back to back. They’re also weak against the position. If they show any signs of tired legs, Fox is definitely a guy who can take advantage of it. I’ll trust that he’s got back into the groove and the overall matchup.

Domantas Sabonis (vs ATL – $8,900 on DK; $8,300 on FD): The Hawks are better against the position than you may think but they are also the Hawks. They’re going to play with their pace and they’re going to give up plenty of points. And Sabonis is an easy double double guy who has big scoring and rebounding ability. He should deliver in a big way given the circumstances.

Gordon Hayward (vs CHI – $7,000 on DK; $7,00 on FD): If Kemba is out once again, it will continue to open up opportunities for Hayward. He is been strong for the majority of the season and even though this is a back to back for the Celtics, they are usually one of the most well-prepared teams in the league.

Jamal Murray (vs WAS – $7,500 on DK; $6,300 on FD): While Jokic is struggling, Murray looked good against Indiana. And Indiana is a much tougher matchup than the Wizards, who are on a back to back. He’s a risk because he can go cold at any moment. But the shots and opportunities are going to be there for him and I have to trust him against a team like the Wizards. If nothing else, he’s not going to hurt you.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (vs CLE – $7,500 on DK; $7,800 on FD): This is a great matchup for the three guard lineup of OKC and all of them are at a great salary. If you don’t like SGA, you can save a little bit of money by going with Schroder. But SGA is going to get his points and chip in with rebounds and a couple of assists. He’s a consistent player with a great matchup at a good price. Plenty to like from the Thunder in this one.
