5 offseason moves Buffalo Bills need to make to get back to playoffs
1. Upgrade Wide Receiver Depth
The Bills added John Brown and Cole Beasley last offseason, and they both delivered nicely as Josh Allen’s top passing game weapons. Brown led the team in targets (115), catches (72), receiving yards (1,060) while tying for the team lead in touchdowns with six. Beasley shared that touchdown lead, while coming in second on the team in targets (106), catches (67) and yards (778).
But after that, things dried up quickly. Dawson Knox had the next highest target total after Brown and Beasley, with 50 during the regular season, and no one else reached 30 receptions or 400 yards.
Buffalo will surely continue to run the ball a lot, with Allen’s rush attempts supplementing that total. But the next step in the quarterback’s evolution is the passing game, and adding a more legit No. 3 wide receiver is the easy solution.
Luckily for teams like the Bills with a need at the position, the 2020 wide receiver draft class is set to be loaded. A Day 2 pick to add someone is pretty likely, but a first-round pick that will sit in the early 20’s will also provide an opportunity to add someone who can make an instant impact next season.
